The King's Cup drinking game

The King's Cup drinking game

Any post college grad worth their weight in hangover remedies knows about the King’s Cup. An innocent enough game when everyone takes their seats, pours their first drink and commence to keep the circle intact. But the fun and games soon turn ugly when your regular flip cup anchor pulls a Waterfall and practically drowns the line behind him. Downing a heady beer with another on reserve while the other fight for air from the bottoms of their cups. This is when the game truly begins …

The Rules: (via kingscuprules.com) (Note: there are many variations of the rules. Feel free to post yours below)

ACE – Waterfall: All players start to drink. The person who draws the card can stop first and it goes clockwise around them. You must continue to drink until the person to your right stops.

KING – King’s Cup: The 4th King drawn must drink the center cup. The first 3 King’s may add drinks to the center cups as well as make a rule.

QUEEN – Categories: The person who draws the cards picks a category then it goes around clockwise until someone takes more than 5 seconds or repeats one already said.
Example 1: Category is States (New York, Ohio, Florida, etc.)
Example 2: Category is Brands of Beer (Bud, Molson, Corona, etc.)

JACK – Rhyme: The person who draws the cards picks an initial word to rhyme with. It then goes around clockwise until someone takes more then 5 seconds or repeates a word already said. The initial word MUST rhyme with English words.
Example: Initial word is “Lime” > time > mine, climb, etc.

TEN – Social: Everyone clinks glasses and then drinks for 5 seconds.

Red 9: The person who draws the card must drink for 9 seconds.

Black 9: The person who draws the card can hand out 9 seconds worth of drinking to other players and/or add some of their drink to the center King’s Cup.

Red 8: The person who draws the card must drink for 8 seconds.

Black 8: The person who draws the card can hand out 8 seconds worth of drinking to other players and/or add some of their drink to the center King’s Cup.

A torturous rule we used to play in our liver-defeating game was the “Rule” card. Whenever a “10” (or whatever chosen card) is pulled that player then gets to create their own addendum to the game. Some greats are:

  1. No Pointing: Anyone that gets caught pointing at anything or anyone during the game is forced to take an extra drink form their beverage
  2. No “Drink, Drank or Drunk”: Anyone that gets caught saying any of the 3 D’s must then consume one swig from their beverage.
  3. No Swearing: This one is pretty self explanatory.
  4. The Little Green Man: When this rule is invoked every court member gets an imaginary little green man who sits on the rim of their beverage. Before taking any drink you must remember to remove him in any fashion (once the drunks come out, flicking is in order). Forgetting, or neglecting, to do so results in a penalty drink … and don’t forget to remove him again.

These are just a few of the interesting rules that can be added to the game for extra morning red eyes. Lets hear some of yours.
