It’s an Allstar Weekend. What?

Ladies, ladies, ladies…. ermmm little girls? Calm down. They’re just Disney teen pop sensations. No reason to… ohh? I get it, the one in the extra tight pants is just so “extra super cute”. I’ll let you have this one, but remember, someday those boys will have facial hair and groupies… you’ve been warned.

year 29 || day 62 – the ugly organ

Depth of Field Piano Keys

An ode to Cursive album, “The Ugly Organ”. Shot on the visitor’s deck of the Queen Mary in Long Beach, the history can nearly be felt. So many hands have traded tunes on these ivory blocks and played to scored of cruise ship visitors. Supposedly haunted, The Queen Mary is said to be home to numerous ghosts and spirits that project themselves to tourists and workers on the regular. Hoping to slip off and find our way to the boiler room where some of the most spottings occur, fear overcomes and the thought is quickly dismissed. Not sure how I could handle seeing a ghost. I believe, but question my reaction if I were to ever be confronted. Screaming like a little girl might be a dead giveaway to the crew that We’d strayed from the tour.

  • Camera: Canon T2i
  • Focal Length: 50mm
  • Shutter: 1/80
  • Aperture: f/1.4
  • ISO: 100
  • Tip: For a shallow depth of field use a wide aperture (smaller number) and increase the distance between your focal point and the background. With a telephoto lens, be sure to keep a good distance from subject to backdrop, otherwise you will be hard up to create a nice shallow depth of field look.

Music Review: Weezer (self titled, Red Album)

Weezer - Self Titled, Red AlbumNot sure how, or where i heard this album in it’s near entirety, (must have been a little birdy) but this album is going to be great. They hit a home run with the single “Pork and Beans” (Video Link) and the tracks to follow are powerful stand-alone ballads in themselves. Many fans lost a bit of Weezer fortitude when they “changed format” on their Maladroit album, and others became new fans because they finally felt that Rivers’ came into his own and stopped writing the kind of music that made them want to love puppies and call their mothers again. With all the new tracks on this upcoming album fans in each Weezer genre will have something to look forward to. The song “Heart Songs” is a great example of Rivers’ writing ability. It’s a nice slow progression song filled with heart and soul. The medley of songs and the story he tells prove that he’s not just some cookie cutter song writer, but that he actually lives the experiences he’s writing about. In “Everybody Get Dangerous” the band picks the pace back up and mixes in some nice electric riffs with the occasional synth twang thrown in for the perfect blend of sound. These guys know how to do everything right!

Also, as a bonus, for those of you who like the other guys in the band, the entire band gets a change to let their voices be heard on this Red, catchy record! So, Mark your calendars for June 3rd and go splurge the $15 (hey, $9.99 at Target if you’re lucky).

ninethreestudio rates this album a 4 of 5.
i couldn’t jump out of the gates with a 5, but we’ll see in the coming months if i have to revisit this. C’mon music industry, make me proud!

Portfolio: Red Struck Four MySpace Page

Title: Red Struck Four’s re-design for their MySpace page

Client: Red Struck Four, Power Punk band from Huntington Beach / Redlands, California

Program(s) Used: Photoshop, CSS Coding (by hand)

Time Span: 10 Hours to completion

About: The lead singer, Paul Lapinksky, came to me and asked for me to do a rush job on their MySpace page, as they were going on tour within the ending of the month. With an agreed upon rush job, this design had to come from concept, to completion in a very short period of time. Some unique and fun things were done with the CSS coding to make objects “float” on the page. PNGs were also used to give the feeling of depth and realism.

Designer Notes: This project was for a good friend of mine and was just good old fashion FUN! I got the chance to dust off my CSS & HTML Coding cobwebs and jump right in to this project. One weekend and a lot of energy drinks got me…through…this……*yawn*… time to crash….
